Welcome to NubAbility Athletics Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to coaching kids with limb loss get off the bench and into the game of MAINSTREAMED organized sports. Our team of high school, collegiate and professional athletes as coaches, who have played against the BEST with LESS and WON, instill courage and confidence through sport and in life as they prepare NubAbility kids to compete and conquer the sports they love. Our coaches mentor NubAbility Camp Athletes long after our events are over. We also provide custom sport instructional events or sessions, public speaking and anti-bullying programming.
Our HQ is in beautiful Southern Illinois in the small town of Du Quoin. Read more about our story below.
NubAbility is paving the way for successful anti-bullying programming with 2 self-authored programs. Go to our events page to learn more about our Bully Proof PE program and speaking engagements and how to book Sam to come speak at your school.
We have partnered with a few quality programs that are like minded in serving unselfishly limb-different youth athletes. We get kids in the game that need prosthetic blades with Never Say Never Foundation and Amputee Blade Runners. Check out our Partnership page to see who else we team up with in order to serve the WHOLE athlete!
Our Game Plan: NubAbility Athletics Foundation exists to encourage, inspire and instruct limb- different children who are congenital or traumatic amputees by getting them out of the stands, off thebench and into the game! We believe all kids should have the opportunity to learn life through sport, regardless of how many limbs they might have. NubAbility has developed an all-volunteer team of over 60,accomplished adult limb-different-athletes, hailing from across the U.S. and other countries. These
athletes coach and mentor the limb-different youth at our camps, clinics, online and beyond. Our cornerstone and most life changing events are our sport camps and clinics, held across the nation. These camps provide one-on-one and small group training for the limb-different-youth-athlete, by our coaches who have already walked in their shoes or “blades”. We have a large 4-day multi-sport camp held in the geographically central location of DuQuoin, in Southern Illinois. Over 150 limb- different kids and their families attend from nearly every state and we even have international participants. Our coaches instruct in adaptive skills & techniques in over 15 sports to prepare limb-different youth to COMPETE in MAINSTREAMED school sports. We also serve kids interested in the outdoorsman school sports with NubAbility Outdoors events.
Additionally, NubAbility Athletics achieves awareness, inspiration and adaptive sport instruction by utilizing social networking, website, print materials, and instructional videos that inform and educate. We also help NubAbility kids get the adaptive tools and prosthetics needed to compete. We have partnered with the Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals and other organizations to reach more kids to serve. Finally, NubAbility has motivational and positive self-image, ANTI-BULLY programs called PE Teach Reach and #BeStrong (Not Bullied). We immerse our Limb-different Coach Athlete Ambassadors into school PE programs to spend the day playing PE with the students and/or present a motivational assembly in a variety of venues. We intend to take the “bully target” off of kids’ backs! We believe in the power of MENTORING. We have seen it change lives since we began in November of 2011. In 2011, NubAbility Founder & Head Coach Sam Kuhnert was 18. Sam had been born with only one hand, but had become a 3 sport varsity athlete in high school and went on to play baseball and pitch in college. Sam had discovered the power of mentorship in high school, when his own football coach, Coach Boyett, had the same limb-difference. Coach Boyett challenged Sam like never before to rise to the level of his gifts as an athlete. NubAbility was born out of a desire to provide that same motivation, instruction and mentorship that Sam experienced growing up. Read Sam’s Full Story here.

In 2012, Sam Kuhnert along with his team of 7 other limb-different coaches established the first All Sport Summer Camp for Limb-Different Kids at Greenville College. They had 19 limb-different youth that year participating. Speed ahead to 2015, The Annual All Sport Summer Camp now held in DuQuoin each year, served 136 limb-different youth athletes ages 4-17 with over 40 accomplished athletes as coaches covering 15 school sanctioned sports and strength training.
In 2016 saw the biggest camp yet, with 150 limb diffifernt youth Athletes, along with 70 siblings participating from not only all over the United States, but also Australia, Haiti and the U.K.
