NubAbility Athletics Coach

Alyse Schmidt

“I have always felt like there isn’t anything that I can’t do or learn. It has been such a rewarding experience to pass that confidence onto the young NubAbility athletes at camp.”

About Alyse

Limb Difference: Congenital

Type: Right Arm, Below Elbow

Sport: Tennis, Volleyball

Alyse’s parents went through genetic counseling after she was born but no real cause was determined for the limb deficiency. Her older sister, Lexi, has both arms. Alyse started using a prosthesis at six months, but later more for length — pushing/pulling toys, clapping, holding shirt sleeves up. Now it’s more of a tool as needed.

Growing up, Alyse was in dance and tumbling, played T-ball, played soccer through eighth grade and has continued to play volleyball and tennis in high school. She lifts weights regularly and even plays a trumpet that is designed for a left-hander.

Sports + Highlights:

● Currently training for the Paralympic A2 sitting volleyball program

● Fort Madison High School (IA): Volleyball, back row (4yrs)

● Chicago Cubs & Chicago Blackhawks fan
